Better Than Nothing: A Mallard Kind of Day

Today, I tried my luck, hoping to capture a photo of a new bird species. I wasn’t the luckiest photographer out there—cold winds and gloomy skies didn’t help. Still, I didn’t return with an empty memory card.

I managed to photograph a mallard—a male, as you can tell by his distinctive green head.
This bird is so common that I barely feel the need to write much about it anymore.
Nevertheless, it’s Anas platyrhynchos—species number 3 featured on the blog.

It wasn’t the discovery I was hoping for, but every outing is a step forward. Nature always has surprises—sometimes small, sometimes spectacular. Next time, I’ll try my luck again, with the same hope in my heart and a ready camera in hand. Maybe then, a rarer bird will decide to pose.
